Home by Another Way: A Christmas Story Barbara Brown Taylor

Grant and Audrey Whitman and their children are a close-knit family, always willing to support each other in times of trouble. And even though they may struggle with God's way of doing things, they care about His will. Home Another Way is a well crafted story in the Potter's House Series. Brenda S. Anderson tastefully through a story addresses contemporary issues of alcohol and drug addition, street people, homeless shelter, and tent city into a story of compassion and forgiveness.

And this time it is Danae and Dallas who need help navigating the complexities of married life. I am a huge fan of reading a married couple's love story. Too often romance readers are left hanging at the 'and they lived happily ever after' end of a book. No mention of the gnarly bits and life messes that make up our everyday reality. Raney invites us into the imperfect world of Danae and Dallas. There's no question that these two love each other but their struggles with infertility have brought division into their marriage.

Some situations, in order to illustrate Sarah's difficult personality, were a little on the raw side although never graphic. A redemptive story about a broken woman who starts on the journey of finding her way in life, the people from Jonah helping her. Robert Benson has written more than a dozen books about discovering the Holy in the midst of our everyday lives. Benson lives and writes, pays attention and offers prayers at his home in Nashville, Tennessee. There was something off about her King Herod descriptions, and it took reading other reviews for me to put my finger on it.

I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts. My thanks to Flyaway Books and NetGalley for this copy in exchange for an honest review. "What are you talking about?" the baby's mother said, laughing. A beautifully illustrated story of the wise men’s search for Jesus.

Realizing that the only way to protect Janir was to take him away from his mother, Thorndike found his way through the pratfalls of child rearing alone. All who have experienced the wrench of mental illness in the family will recognize their own journey in Thorndike's heartfelt and heroic story of fatherhood. Romance, suspense and drama all rolled into one.

I mean...by all available evidence, he was rather terrible. But he wasn't terrible because he was fat and ugly. Granted, children's book antagonists will traditionally be ugly, but I just think his motives to remain the only king could have been better explained.

But then, there it is, the 'aha' moment that gave my goosebumps goosebumps. Because Dallas and Danae's story proclaims that God always has a plan, even in the midst of our darkest hour. And that plan far exceeds even our most outrageous imaginings. Fearless readers, gather ’round… For those with the courage and bandwidth to launch a bold new reading adventure, we’ve put together this...

Inspiring sermons read with Bible Study group. Wonderful collection of sermons to take you through the liturgical year. A book I savored slowly as the lectionary moved through the church. She instills hope that we Christ followers still have something profoundly good to offer to the world. Thanks to Netgalley and Flyaway books for the ebook. The story ends with them going home another way.

Her foil, a pastor named Jack, who also becomes Sarah’s love interest, is the example of a soiled past made clean through the surrender to Jesus, trusting in His Grace and Mercy. Both are hiding dark secrets that will hurt others. But it’s what they choose to do with that pain and hurt that makes all the difference. Could have been much more detail about the backwoods people sarah visited.

Sometimes life's greatest adventures and greatest blessings were found by taking another way home. Let us know what’s wrong with this preview of Another Way Home by Deborah Raney. Helped to see homeless people and how to truly help them in a different light. She creates warm and welcoming characters who have realistic flaws and are just waiting to be re-shaped in the hands of the Master potter.

Dallas sort of seemed callous to Danae's pain at first, even lamenting that if they had a baby, she would love it more than him. (Please, you are a grown man, sheesh!) Yet, as he bonds with the little boy they foster, he realizes what Danae has longed for all along. I also liked how it showed the sacrificial love foster and adoptive parents have to have when taking in an older child who has suffered trauma. It also realistically portrayed the uncertainties of domestic American adoption, where the birth mother could change her mind at the last minute . I have walked with dear friends and close family who have struggled with infertility, and the emotions and struggles were portrayed in a gut-wrenching way. For the realistic portrayal of those things, as well as the engaging plot, I give this book overall three stars.

In each story, we are given a bird’s-eye view into the various issues some of the grown Whitman children have faced along with how they interact and the running of the inn. Here, in the third book, the author tackles a couple of hard issues such as domestic abuse, infertility, adoption, marriage and faith. I was really grabbed by the heart when Danea continued to be disappointed about not getting pregnant even when spending so much money. Despairing of ever having a family of her own, Danae decides to pour her passion and energies into volunteer work with a newly opened women's shelter in town. The three, each with a star "lodged in his right eye" and each "glad for a reason to get out of town," meet one another on their way to bring gifts to a king. Herod picks his fingernails and has breath that smells "like Pine-Sol." He doubts that the men are fulfilling any prophecy but directs them to Bethlehem.

I love her style and approach to preaching and felt like each of these had something to teach me all because they didn’t preach but instead invited me into the story of scripture. Taylor began preaching as someone who was influenced by Fred Craddock. By the time this collection came out she had developed her own unique and powerful preaching voice. In the pulpit she had a poise and confidence that comes through in the written text.

I was at odds, championing them both, wishing I could wave a magic wand and fix it all for them. She sets them on an incredible journey of discovery. There's plenty of twists and turns and gasp-out-loud moments.

But when the kiln at the shop starts a fire that nearly destroys the studio, she'll need all the help she can get to save the business and their summer income. Can these two strong-willed people come together to mend the broken pieces of the Ross family? Or will the ghosts of the past continue to haunt them? Return to Prince Edward Island for a romantic story of family, forgiveness, and the power of love. Soon after the birth of their son, Janir, John Thorndike's wife began a terrifying and dangerous drift into schizophrenia.
