Home by Another Way by Barbara Brown Taylor

This is a simple and original take on the story of the three wiseman. I love that this book offers a diverse perspective and also portrays Mary as playful. Overall, I really enjoyed the picture book myself.

The author thoughtfully filled in gaps of the wise men's story with fictional details meant to entertain children. With beautifully detailed illustrations, this is a work of reality-based fiction children would surely enjoy, especially at Christmas. Seeing the sad lives of abused women, she quickly matures in her understanding of gratitude.

He is anxious to buy his own home when he meets Dani. They join forces to look for their new homes. You will love how God helps Dani and Austin find love even though they come from different backgrounds and problems. The third book in this series about life in Missouri that started with an empty nest couple turning their home into a B&B. This particular book focuses on their daughter, Danae, and how she and her husband are struggling with infertility while Danae's siblings seem to have no problem giving grandchildren to their parents.

While I do not discredit her interpretations of Scripture, she seems to avoid speaking of sin, evil and the problems that both present. It’s a beautifully illustrated story of Jesus’s birth, Herod’s evil intent, and the wise men’s visit. I hate almost every children’s Christmas book. It at least portrays brown wise men and a brown baby Jesus.

In addition to writing about the island , the authour tells us about himself and his wife, their relationship and how they spend their time. It's about the lives they live when they're on the island though; we only get glimpses of his "real" life in the U.S. I was glad of that because I wanted more of the island than anything else. My wishing there was less about them and more about St. Cecilia does not indicate any flaw in the book. The book is exactly what it was meant to be, the story of their lives on the island. I'm just a little too greedy for the Caribbean.

There were just too many details added, left out, or changed to make a story different that I couldn’t recommend it to anyone who wants to read about the true event. I loved the start of this story and the reflections on the purpose of life. I found the language poetic and the descriptions thought provoking.

I love that the author does shy away from real issues but tries to enlighten us the readers in this issues like the subject of homelessness in this book. I liked that it was not sappy sweet like many of the books I’ve read by Christian authors. The author did not try to make everything work out wonderful for every situation.

About Brenda S. Anderson

They may even see a bit of themselves in Sarah’s journey, like I did. I loved her writing style & the story line was very intriguing. Soon I could see and feel the individuals who people this story.

Danae can’t keep her resentment from showing, and Corrinne feels guilty and unsure when to even announce her news to the family. Though the family empathizes and tries to be sensitive, Danae resents their well-meaning questions and concerns and sympathy. Dallas especially feels he has to constantly walk on eggshells around Danae. Dallas won’t even discuss the possibility of adoption, for reasons which he won’t share, even though he himself was adopted and raised by a loving family. I was so conflicted about it, couldn't decide if I should give it three stars or four - three and a half?

And how her and Austin came from different backgrounds but still was able to find their way to each other threw trusting God. Good book, easy and fast to read, nice to read the sentiments of Danielle, the different lives. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

He is the anti-hero who stole her childhood when he killed her mother and then went to prison. He owes her, which is why she feels driven to collect. He has a simple, straightforward style that doesn't ask much of the reader, which can be a very nice change.

I was 19, stumbling around in the dark, trying to decide if I believed any of my upbringing. I doubt it was the purpose of this author to give me courage to take a step out into the unknown and pack my bags for the 12 hour drive back to Alabama from South Carolina, but that is what I did. I am not even sure where I purchased this book at or why I picked it up out of the towering TBR pile I have by my bed, but boy am I glad I did. Christa Parrish has created a believable slate of characters in this novel of a young girl, hardened by her tragic background.

Another Way Home: The Tangled Roots of Race in One Chicago Family

I have said this in reviews of Christian children's books before, but Ignatien Meditation is an ancient practice of engaging with the Bible. Lots of the backstories of Biblical characters are left a mystery. Imagining them is an ancient and perfectly valid tradition. It helps connect us to the text and can lead to deeper understanding. Another Way Home by Deborah Raney is the third in her Chicory Inn series involving the family of empty nesters Grant and Audrey Whitman, who have turned their family home into a bed and breakfast. This is a book is a stand alone but if you would like to read starting with the first book in the Chicory Inn series you will fall in love with this family.
